Training Overview
The most common request we receive from practitioners in the trauma recovery community is more education about navigating the complexities of the multi-layered impact of developmental trauma. Developmental trauma affects all elements of humanness: somatic, emotional, social, mental, spiritual. It creates a structure that is like a stack of Jenga blocks - each movement within that structure impacts every other part of the whole. Without an understanding of the dynamics of the trauma-based structure, practitioners can inadvertently cause more symptoms, rather than more regulation.
What we aim to do with this program is to provide a context and set of tools that help practitioners work with the regulation and equilibrium of those complex systems of trauma and trauma response, so that each change within that system is sufficiently titrated and regulation focused.
What we will cover:
- The forensics of trauma - how is trauma fueling symptoms, behaviors, responses
- Untangling the complex knots of developmental trauma; knowing where to start, and where to go next
- Understanding how symptoms are part of the whole of the effect of developmental trauma
- The Faux Window of Tolerance and Defensive Accommodation model of understanding the critical need for regulation-based interventions
- Chronic illness and developmental trauma
- This and that are both true
- Practitioner fear and inhibition - the part of us as practitioners that won’t let the client go somewhere that we’re afraid to accompany them
- Regulation, micro-titration, stabilization of change
